💞Ode to Ella & her Books…Happy 7th Birthday! (With Video)

I never thought they would come flying up so fast: all these birthdays of my little girl!  But like everything else, I suppose what happens is, we just ‘get it’ once we’ve lived it: the realization that we must hold tight to the memories of days passed. And…in that deep unexplainable part of life which makes it seem to pass by at an incomprehensible speed, we start to grasp something profound. Moments with our children which might seem minuscule at the exact point we experience them, are pondered later that same night when our heads finally hit the pillow. Suddenly, we realize the indescribable beauty of our interactions (whether momentary or more lengthy): we have captured them in our mind’s eye and have to hold on!

There are of course the more traditionally recognized “landmark moments” such as  loosing a first tooth and the multitude of others to which we parents can all relate.  No matter the moment (grand or minuscule), I am learning to fully embrace them, with a sense of the presence of their richness & value.  Some days I feel I have failed miserably, only to be reminded by a loved one of something special that my daughter and I experienced together that very day.  Other days I know I could have done so much better as a Homeschool mom or just as “mom,” yet my sweet child manages to “lead me out of the wilderness” and show me in her own precious way that things are great in her eyes!  Then, basically all I need to do is look in those eyes…and I see the light!

Version 3  lost a tooth…small & mighty moment 💙

Sometimes we, as moms particularly- can beat ourselves up over things we think we do wrong, things we don’t do enough, or even things we can’t do at all.  Then again, late in the night our head hits the pillow once more and another moment of clarity arrives: be equally appreciative or yourself for all the love- because it is felt!  Well, on this occasion when our family is just upon another birthday – I wanted to express to any moms reading this that the small moments matter and you are so valuable to your child(ren) no matter how phenomenally well or miserably horrible you may feel a particular day went. Your kids love you and you love them!  We don’t necessarily need those big landmark moments as much as we do the small ones.

So for you (MOMS & KIDS TOGETHER FOR THIS) and in an “Ode to Ella” on her Seventh Birthday~ I want to share a little snapshot into something silly we do together during our Homeschool week.  You can hopefully laugh with us or even at us- we won’t mind! And most of all: we hope you will laugh together as you make your own silly memories whether in a Homeschool environment or on a weekend for some family time!

With the voracious nature of my daughter’s reading, we choose to use this really neat and FUN free app to take the place of more serious activities on days when one of us does not want to be held to a fixed plan such as a writer’s journal, story map, book report or some other graphic organizer.  Instead- we grab the iPad and open ChatterPixKids.  She becomes her own little creative “videographer, commentator, book-reviewer, animator” and more! We have a precious librarian to thank for sharing this with us!

She has fun capturing some of her favorite book character memories in a new way! Ella began taking books from some of her favorite series read more recently and using this app to create SILLY and FUN mini 20 second animated snapshots about the basic plot of the book. It has been especially fun to see her work at getting her own words out during the limited time allotted. Sometimes the FUN and HARD CORE BELLY LAUGHTER can turn quickly to FRUSTRATION, when she thinks she’s done a “horrible job,” and wants to quit!  This is yet one more opportunity for growth and learning.

Then we might grab the salt and pepper shakers from the lunch table and make a quick video of them talking about “being all shaken-up!”  This breaks the ice. She has slowly developed an ability to laugh at herself during the fumbles as well!  So really where can you go wrong with such a neat concept?!

Share your ChatterPix with us too, we would love it very much!

Sincerely, Ella & her Mom
