COURAGE & STRENGTH MEETS
HUMILITY & GRACE
What does a Lion have to do with a Lily?
An analogy worth pondering
A lily met a lion a lion out walking one day. The wind was blowing gently, the lily bowed and swayed.
Roared the lion to the lily, “Why do you bend that way? Don’t let a little breeze push you around!”
“It’s my nature to be flexible and sway when breezes blow,” the sweet lily sighed.
“Standing one’s ground is perfectly possible, you know.”
“Hmm,” said the lion. A dark thought passing over him. “I could tare your delicate petals with my teeth.”
“Beg me not to.”
The lily replied, “As for Fate, I take the larger view. Why should I plead, when you’ll do what you do?”
“That’s true,” agreed the lion. “Your delicate, but your grace is powerful. I have never thought beyond myself.”
Secretly- he marveled at the delicate flower.
The lily replied, “I admire you lion, that ruff of fur, those claws, and how the forest trembles when you roar.”
Oh the lily was astute.
No doubt about that.
To speak so poetically to an unpoetic cat.
“I also admire your strength, the lily confessed. Four feet on the ground and always so self-possessed.”
“On the other hand,” said the lion.
”It must be gratifying to be appreciated as the graceful one.”
“I suppose it could be to some, who focus on that.” the lily admitted.
But I have great missions to accomplish, so my focus is more deeply committed.”
“I want to be more than just ‘king’ of the forest!” the lion chimed in.
Now something was happening–neither could explain. Maybe lion saw there was more to life than just reign.
The lions claws retracted, his cheek whiskers wiggled and he flushed.
The lily’s snow-white petals took on a pinkish blush.
“Is this what the poet Keats felt?” the lion asked himself. Then stopped amazed at his own poetic thought.
“We could be a strange and unique combination,” said the lion quietly. “A lily and a lion- what would the forest say?”
She replied, “It matters not. We each make our own way.”
The lily stood tall, opening her petals & pondering what had transpired.
The lion along-side her felt quite inspired by all the new knowledge he’d acquired.
Then lion lowered himself slightly and carefully looked at the lily.
The delicate flower was as strong as he– in demeanor, yet full of a beautiful grace.
The lion was overcome.
New appreciation came over his face.
WHAT BALANCE IT TAKES TO BE TRULY SUCCESSFUL-
LIKE THIS FLOWER WHO BLOOMS & GROWS AGAINST THE TOUGHEST WINDS & WEATHER.
Lion bowed a bit more, one last time- to admire Lily’s sweet wisdom and fresh grace.
THEN HE NODDED & WALKED OFF WITH NEW MEANING TO FACE.
